Photographer's Statement:
Our incursion into Germany was from Holland. We were between the British 8th Army, to our North, and Patton, to the South. On Christmas Day, 1944, we were in a German town, garrisoned in a large school house,
about 25 miles North of what developed as the Battle of the Bulge.
We later proceeded through such cities as Krefeld and Bielefeld, ending on the Elbe River, about 60 miles from Berlin. There we stopped our advance, met-up with the Russians, and accepted the surrender of a German Division fleeing the Russians.
